Dutch level A (Beginners)

This language sequel is intended for language learners who have (almost) no previous knowledge of the Dutch language. The sequel brings complete beginners to pre-intermediate level in four modules of 5 classes. The aim is to familiarise yourself with the basics of Dutch language and culture. After completion of the sequel, you will have acquired a substantial vocabulary and extended language skills to communicate about a wide range of everyday topics in Dutch. 

The modules can be followed independently, but the content and learning objectives of each module gradually increases in complexity. The modules in each level are related though and build upon the previous module.  

After your enrollment the teacher will contact you to ascertain this level of the module suits your needs. Enrollment closes two weeks before the start of each module (each period).

Prerequisite: strong command of English language.

Structure/study load

• 4 modules of 5 x 2 hrs lessons per week > 10 hrs per period
• Preparation, exercises, and test: 5 x 2 hrs per week > 10 hrs period
• Total 20 hrs per period

Learning outcomes

Period 1 and 2: Basic user, start level A0 > A1 (target level)

• Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases;
• Can introduce him/herself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details;
• Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Period 3 and 4: Basic user, start level A1 > A2 (target level)

• Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance;
• Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
• Can describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
