You've probably read it before. That the world around us is changing and so is our education and research. And that it is important to keep moving with it. A certain basic attitude is important for this: you are curious, want to learn and are open to new insights. And developing yourself is also an important part of that.
And that development can be found, on the one hand, in small learning moments, as Sofie Moresi pointed out in her 9 tips. And on the other hand in courses, training, education and so on. Fortunately, at Fontys we all get time and budget to work on our development. However, sometimes development is easier said than done. Therefore, below are 5 doors you can open to get started.
1. Getting started with the 8 Fontys roles
Fontys developed a set of 8 recognizable roles that help you develop. By clarifying which roles suit you, you also gain a better understanding of where your development opportunities lie. Read more about these practical and accessible Fontys roles. Take the test, order a game and get started yourself or with your colleagues.

2. P&O is the entry for development
OK, you want to get started with development. Do you still have no idea at all what's out there and what you can start doing? Then start with a visit to the P&O Portal 'Learning & Development'. Here you will find everything about development as an individual, team or in the area of leadership. Concrete tools, tips, and so on. Here you can also easily contact someone from the Learning & Development team at the P&O Department.

3. Talk to your manager
Your supervisor is actually your contact when it comes to your development. You discuss your wishes, goals and ambitions with him or her. Small and large. You also make agreements during this development conversation about the time you can spend on this and the costs you will incur.

4. Discover workshops and training courses on Fontys Hub
On Fontys Hub you will find the 'Development finder'. Here you'll find all kinds of development initiatives, from courses to e-learnings and workshops to webinars. Sometimes they are free, and if not, you can arrange budget and time for your development initiative with your manager.

5. From hbo-course tot masters: Fontys Pro
Looking for something more than a workshop or training course? Then take a look at Fontys Pro. There we offer training, masters and college courses for professionals. Of course, you can also go here as a Fontys employee. Found something? Then take it to your manager and see what the possibilities are.

The sixth door you might say. Join a Teams community. Within Fontys there are several communities of course, but these 3 are interesting anyway to maybe join
1. Community leaders
This is the place where you can find other executives within Fontys. Here you can share and read practical experiences, ask each other questions, raise issues, share interesting articles, books or workshops, and so on. In short: a place for and by executives. Already 100 colleagues preceded you.

2. Community ambassadors of development
The Agile Professionals program has set up a team channel containing ambassadors of learning and development from all over Fontys. Colleagues who have a soft spot for the ideas of Wendbare Professionals (think of the 8 Fontys roles for example) and want to actively engage in this within their department or institute. Interested? Send an email to wendbaar@fontys.nl and you will be added!
3. Community connectors
Are you a connector (in Dutch: bruggenbouwer)? This community is full of enthusiastic, experienced and less experienced, connectors from different sectors and organizations,. They connect with each other on specific 'bridge builder issues'. This community gives you a network that inspires, stimulates, motivates and activates you in your role as a connector.

Of course, there are many more opportunities for development at Fontys. So talk about it with your colleagues, your manager and at home. Because development is often much more in the small moments during the day than in a diploma or certificate. Go for it and make it a priority in 2024.
